“Hypersexualization is the act of (hyper) sexualizing or accentuating the sexuality of someone, or to make someone extremely sexual“
Why do we hypersexualize specific communities or identities? Exotify cultures that are different from ours? Why do we objectify and commodify bodies?
What happens when we further fragment an already marginalized culture/community to impose or accentuate their sexuality?
We live in a paradoxical time that both hides sexual desires shamefully (in the private realm) as well as celebrates “sexual freedom” on an everyday basis, from mass media to online dating and clubbing/bar culture. Leaving little space for a healthy understanding of sexual desires. With “sex” being such a crux of popular culture, how can we ourselves avoid imposing sexual fantasies or desires upon others while still celebrating whatever level of sexuality that is comfortable for us?
