ShPFF | 30 Days Before Submissions Close

Looking back at the 2018 LGBTQ films, many stood out and caught our hearts. We remember “Love, Simon”, one of the most popular films during the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF). “Sorry Angel” and “Girl” impressed the audience deeply during the Cannes Film Festival. We also saw some great Chinese films, such as “Dear Ex” which started a heated discussion online. We cannot stop talking about the Oscar Winners, including “Green Book”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and “The Favorite”. Let us not forget about the Teddy Jury Award Winner, “A Dog Barking at the Moon”.

Such a great variety of themes and social issues showcased the unlimited potential of LGBTQ films and why we need them.

As an essential part of ShanghaiPRIDE, ShPFF 2019 is looking forward to more outstanding LGBTQ films. We welcome all LGBTQ films to participate in ShPFF 2019 with no limitations on the language, theme, or form!

Last year at our tenth festival, ShPFF ran for 12 days—for a total of 45 hours. The submissions for the Chinese Short Film Awards totaled an all-time high of 50 films, and the Best Film “Pink Pills” was one of the top nominations at the UK Iris Prize Festival.

We welcomed top award-winning and nominated films “Alifu, The Prince/ss” (Taiwan Golden Horse Awards 2017), “120 BPM” (Caesar Award 2017, Cannes Film Festival 2017 and Palme d’Or Award 2017), and “Anchor and Hope” (Gaudi Awards 2017). Special guests Utjung Tjakivalid (main actor, Alifu, The Prince/ss), Philippe Mangeot (co-screenwriter, 120 BPM) and Sridhar Rangayan (director, Evening Shadows) joined us for a discussion.

ShPFF 2019 will once again offer an exciting array of events, as well as opportunities for filmmakers. The countdown for the film submission deadline has begun, and we would like to welcome Chinese and international LGBTQ films and filmmakers to join us on this fantastic journey.
