ShPFF Meets Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Last Sunday, despite the rainy and windy weather, passionate film lovers filled up People Squared for the ShPFF x Australian Consulate General Shanghai Special Screening. When registration first opened, seats went out within a day. We are very excited that most of the audience attended ShPFF film screening for the first time.

It has been a happening year for ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival. After the “LGBTQ film marathon” ended in June, we presented to you 6 awesome films who are winners and top favorites from the ShPFF Chinese Short Film Competition in mid-August. This time, we will be screening a film of its time, and joined by a very special guest!
ShPFF Meets MAB “Beauty without Beards”
Last Saturday, despite the hot weather, passionate LGBTQ film lovers packed the “ShPFF x Modern Art Base” Special Screening. When the RSVP opened, seats went out within a few hours and the audience filled up the gallery on event day. We are also very excited that most of the audience attended ShPFF film screening for the first time.
ShPFF 2017 Chinese Short Film Best Film shortlisted at Iris Prize Festival 2017
The Iris Prize Festival (UK) is one of the world’s most dynamic LGBTQ film festivals. Since 2015, ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival has partnered with Iris Prize Festival. The Best Film of our Chinese Short Film Competition will represent ShPFF at the festival, competing for the top prize of £30,000 (CNY 300,000).
08/19 Special Screening: ShPFF x Modern Art Base
When ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival ended in June, many from the audience told us that the “LGBTQ film marathon” was a great method, the program was creative and meaningful, and the films were of high quality. However, some hoped that there would be more screenings as they missed their favorites. Thanks to Modern Art Base, this special screening on 08/19 will present to you 6 awesome films who are winners and top favorites from the ShPFF Chinese Short Film Competition. Don’t miss them!
ShPFF III – Special Screening Recap
ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival 2017 screened approximately 40 queer films in just 2 days, on 11 and 18-June, 22 hours of queer films marathon. Due to overwhelming response from the audience, we added a special screening on 20-June evening. Special thanks to all volunteers and audience for the support!
ShPFF II Sharing Love & Courage
The second ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival film marathon was held at The British Centre on 18-June with 11 hours of film screenings, including films from China, UK, The Netherlands, Denmark, Canada, India and more. More than 20 queer films were screened and were well-received by the audience.

Many said that life is like a movie, it is a form of language that showcases reality and touches souls. Every year during ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival (ShPFF), we want to present diversity, and through these queer films, we not only share them with the community, we hope to reach out to more of the general public.
ShPFF, part of ShanghaiPRIDE, started in 2009 and was re-launched in 2015, continues to support new Chinese filmmakers and bringing the cutting edge of international queer cinema to Shanghai.
ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival (ShPFF) will return in June 11th & 18th 2017
ShPFF was launched in 2015 as part of ShanghaiPRIDE, continuing to support new Chinese filmmakers and bringing the cutting edge of international queer cinema to Shanghai.
In October 2015, ShPFF became one of the founding members of the Asia-Pacific LGBT/Queer Film Festivals Alliance (APQFFA). Launched in Taipei, the alliance aims to support and promote work by filmmakers across the region.
ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival History
ShanghaiPRIDE has always included film screenings as part of its cultural program. It goes without saying that visible queer characters and stories on screen contribute enormously to the progress of rights and acceptance for LGBT people.
In China, however, film takes a particularly important role. Films like East Palace, West Palace and Lan Yu mark specific milestones in public awareness. Activists like Fan Popo and Ziʼen Cui are foremost filmmakers, and work to encourage others to pick up cameras. The underground film scene is increas- ing its traction globally, as smaller filmmakers are invited to participate in events in Europe, Asia and North America, piecing together a new under- standing of what queer China is like through cinema art.
