Recap | Coming Out to Change Hearts and Minds
On the evening of 24-May, a special screening leading to ShPFF in June was held at IVI Movie, in partnership with the Consulate General of Ireland in Shanghai. The audience enjoyed the inspiring documentary The Queen of Ireland together.
Aileen Murray, Vice Consul of the Consulate General of Ireland in Shanghai, delivered the welcome speech. This is the first time the Irish Consulate General collaborated with ShanghaiPRIDE. We look forward to collaborating further in LGBTQ-related topics and organizing more events in Shanghai.
The Queen of Ireland is a documentary about Panti Bliss, one of the most famous drag queens in Ireland, her self-discovery journey and advocacy for the LGBTQ community. Panti Bliss shared about her life and experience when she travelled to China and Japan in the 1990s.
Panti is passionate about LGBTQ issues of various countries. “I did want to be straight, but being me is much more important”, as she encouraged everyone to be their true selves. She also expressed her opinion on coming out, “everyone should come out when they can, by voicing out then you can make changes.”
We would like to thank the Consulate General of Ireland in Shanghai for supporting this special screening.
Stay tuned for more ShPFF in June!
