BENT——Bohemian carnival with blood and tears

As part of ShanghaiPRIDE Theatre Festival, Urban Aphrodite brought BENT, which is New York’s RENT to Shanghai on June 19 & 21 in Jiadu Theatre, Changning District.
The musical told a story of young artists, known as the generation of “the end of the millennium”, and their struggles through HIV and drug issues. The story was told through the love story of Mimi, a dancer, and Roger, a musician, and two homosexual couples.

As a 20-year Broadway hit, BENT covered a huge variety of music: classic rock, folk, blues, tango and carols.

Urban Aphrodite embedded local LGBTQ stories into the show, which brought more diversity and meaning in the Shanghai context.

ShanghaiPRIDE thanks Urban Aphrodite for supporting the LGBTQ community. We hope we can work together again next year.
