The First ShanghaiPRIDE Theatre Festival Wraps Up

ShanghaiPRIDE Theatre Festival (ShPTF) wrapped up on June 28th, 2015, a few days after the seventh annual ShanghaiPRIDE Festival.

ShPTF kicked off with drama club pioneer Zhihe Society performing Vagina Monologues at Fudan University on June 1st and 13th. In the following week, East West Theatre hosted Bite My Thumb at Happiness42 on the 18th, and Urban Aphrodite, another sophisticated English troupe, hosted BENT at Jiadu Theatre on the 19th and 21st. The festival eventually wrapped up at The Pearl, with the closing honours given to FLYIMPROV, the first Shanghai-based improvisation performance institute, performing Colours.

The organizers of ShPTF said that they were glad to see more and more straight allies getting involved in the events. These contributions from volunteers, including actors and actresses provided them a brand new perspective of the LGBTQ community.

In the future, the organizers are hoping to gather more theatres and plays from all over the world to provide different arts experiences to the local community.
