Professional Women’s Networking Forum
Women Up! is a professional women’s networking event which aims to empower women of all orientation and identities to have greater confidence in pursuing a career or owning a business. This month, hear from three ladies who tech their experiences and challenges in their industry. These female leaders will share their struggles and secrets to success as well as critical skills such as interview skills, networking skills, and analytical skills that are pertinent across multiple industries and professional levels. Rachel Dayou
Topic: What it meant for me as a businesswoman to fund a tech start-up
Rachel Dayou is the Founder of 礼好吗 Lihaoma, a mobile app for gifting. In six years of working in China, she has successfully ran large scale projects in four different industries. She started off in the luxury business, organizing high-end events for the auction house Christie’s, then spent four years as brand manager for the imported ABinBev (biggest brewer in the world) products across China. She then switched to the fashion industry, and opened and managed 20 flagship stores for the Beaumanoir Group. She holds an HSK 5. Rachel was also finalist at Global Insight Network and IE Women Venture Day Pitch competitions. After gathering all this experience in retail and distribution, she launched a mobile application to send creative coupons. Lihaoma turns digital gifts into real experiences thanks to personalization and gamification. Her app allows brands to better engage with consumers and users to offer original gifts to their friends.
Lilian Shen
Topic: Interdisciplinary knowledge and community in a tech world
Lilian Shen provides support in Mergers & Acquisitions, and Integration for Dentsu Aegis Network. She previously worked at a boutique investment bank as an M&A financial analyst for cross border transactions. She has attained a B.B.A in Finance and a B.Sc in Environmental Science. Lilian’s senior thesis was evaluating the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China, using climate modelling and geospatial information systems.
Lilian has worked on projects and with clients in sectors including auto and auto parts, digital marketing and media, cloud computing, data analytics, smart sensors, e-commerce, LED technology, generators, fiber optic transceivers, water/sludge treatment technology, food processing machinery, etc.
Lilian is also an active member of the community – she
organized ShanghaiPRIDE’s first Women Up! Networking event in 2015, co-leads Queer Talks, a discussion-based event series, and is the Operations Manager of Zmack Shanghai. She also performs with Zmack in Improv comedy shows in both English and Chinese.
Lilian will speak about the importance of critical thinking in a growingly technological world and how she bring transferable skills back into the community.
Sammy Wu
Topic: Mobile internet is changing lesbians’ lives
Sammy Wu is Co-founder & Chief Brand Officer of Rela and is responsible for Branding and Commercialization. As the biggest lesbian social app in China, Rela has 3 million users around the world. Sammy has over four years of experience in the LGBTQ community service sector including ShanghaiPRIDE. She also has strong brand-building and long-term planning ability for the pink market. Since 2014, she has co-organized China LGBT Community Survey and China Pink Market Conference with WorkforLGBT (NGO) and Blued (world’s biggest gay social app). Sammy recently joined the Google entrepreneurship program, Black Box Session 15.
