Event Recap: ShanghaiPRIDE 2016 Rainbow Bike Ride
In conjunction with International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), and following the launch of ShanghaiPRIDE 2016 theme and ad campaign, this year’s pre-Pride Rainbow Bike Ride kicked off at 7pm on 21-May. Rain did not dampen the spirits of over 60 cyclists to ride the full journey across Shanghai to form the six-colored Pride rainbow flag.
Six cycling teams each equipped with lights representing a color of the rainbow flag (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple) started from six major landmarks across Shanghai (Shanghai Stadium, Lu Jiazui, Renmin Avenue, Zhongshan Park, Jade Buddha Temple, and Suzhou River). The teams cycled across the city passing by the bustling night scene with pride and purpose to finally converge at Yongjia Court, Xujiahui, to signify diversity and unity in harmony.
When the cyclists arrived between 9pm and 9:30pm, they were greeted by volunteers who presented them with an assortment of souvenirs which included T-shirts representing the color of the team, mobile phone protective covers, and a goody bag. Cameras flashed everywhere as photographers and passers-by took every opportunity to capture the significant moment of all the teams coming together and forming the rainbow flag.
As a celebration to cap off the evening, the Shang-High Rollers hosted a fun and sporty WHEELS UP after-party with games for everyone to participate in. Leo and Lucio put up sexy and powerful dance performances to entertain the crowd to end a fascinating evening.
Special thanks to our sponsors – LGBT facility and event website “Rainbow Rabbit” for the T-shirts and phone covers, high-end sex toys retailer “IMTOY” for the goody bags and raffle prizes, and Brownstone Tapas & Lounge for hosting the event.
We look forward to seeing you at the ShanghaiPRIDE 2016 festival from 17 to 26-June!
