ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival 2016
ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival (ShPFF) returns for its second year. The official program will be released online on June 10, but here’s a taste of what’s in store.
THE PROGRAM BY NUMBERS
ShPFF will screen more than 40 films over the 10 days’ festival, which runs as part of ShanghaiPRIDE from June 17 – 26, at 11 venues across the city. There are 4 theme strands this year, including Asian Cinema, Queer History and Lala Stories. The main strand is GENDER, films about transgender and non-binary experience. All events are free and open to all.
In the run up to ShPFF 2016, we are also presenting a retrospective of last year’s festival. From May 23 – June 16, we are presenting a selection of entries to our short film competition last year in collaboration with Arthub Asia, free to view online at http://arthubasia.org.
SHORT FILM COMPETITION
We are proud to support filmmakers from around the world. Our short film competition aims to promote Chinese queer narratives. Our industry judges preside over 5 categories, with the winning Best Film will be presented at Iris Prize (UK), with a chance to win £30,000 in production funding.
Winners will be announced on ShPFF Opening Night, June 19.
We would like to once again thank all of our sponsors and partners, especially our Gold Sponsor Rela, China’s largest lesbian dating app that has over three million users, for their generous support for this year’s festival. It is only with their help that we are able to expand our program for the second year and support even more emerging filmmaking talents.
