【Recap】ShPRIDE 2016－PRIDE Run & Pink BBQ
Shanghai, June 18th – We ran with pride on a sunny Saturday morning! This year’s Pride Run was supported by Nike Running Club, sending out the message #BeTrue in hopes that everyone can be their true self. More than 200 participants started from six different locations around Shanghai – Yu Garden, Middle Huaihai Road, Jing’an Park, Cool Docks, corner of Wukang Road and Anfu Road, and Long Museum. Runners were decked in Nike #BeTrue T-shirts and rainbow shoelaces. Everyone was proud to support Pride8 running through scenic spots of Shanghai following the coaches and pacers. All runners arrive at the end point XTD elevated – The Langham Xintiandi, Shanghai around 10:30AM and were greeted by volunteers handing out goodie bags which included the Pride8 “I Am Me” T-shirts, sunglasses, coconut juice, red ribbon pins, and more. The Pink BBQ was also the highlight of the day. All runners were treated to a delicious BBQ by the hotel, and more joined to celebrate diversity and love. After the thank you speech, there were performances followed by a group photo-shoot. Special thanks to Wunderman Shanghai, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Shanghai, The Langham Shanghai, Xintiandi, IMTOY, Gay Games, Malee Coco and China Run for making both events a great success! Most importantly, special thanks to all participants and volunteers for making this possible. This year, all proceeds of the run will go to “Rainbow Campus” organized by Common Language. Common Language is a community-based non-profit organization established in January 2005. Common Language focuses on Chinese communities suffering from oppression based on sexual orientation and gender identity and endeavors to educate the general public on sexual diversity issues, eradicate discrimination, and fight for equal rights through community mobilizing, public education, and policy advocacy.
