Event Recap: Proud Cyclists Converged Into Rainbow
In conjunction with International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), and following the launch of ShanghaiPRIDE 2017 theme and ad campaign “The Time is Now”, this year’s pre-Pride Rainbow Bike Ride kicked off at 9am on 20-May. Almost 200 passionate cyclists donned in different colors departed from 6 different corners of Shanghai and met at Xuhui Binjiang Green Space to form the six-colored Pride rainbow flag.
Six cycling teams each in T-shirts representing a color of the rainbow flag (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple) departed from six major landmarks across Shanghai (Xintiandi, Sunny Days City, Jing’an Temple, Lujiazui, Zhongshan Park and Power Station of Art). The teams cycled across the bustling city with pride and purpose to finally converge at Xuhui Binjiang Green Space, to signify diversity and unity in harmony.
When the cyclists arrived between 11am and 11:30am, they were greeted by volunteers and led to the picnic area. When the last team arrived, the teams prepared for the photo shoot. Cameras flashed everywhere as photographers and passers-by took every opportunity to capture the significant moment of all the teams coming together and forming the rainbow flag.
After the photo shoot, the participants took time to enjoy refreshments and bask in the pleasant summer of Shanghai.
