ShPFF | Time is Ticking! 15 Days Countdown to Submission Close

In recent years, films reflecting the LGBTQ community have caught the attention of the public. At the 80th Oscar’s Academy Awards, “Call Me by Your Name” which narrates gay love and “A Fantastic Woman” that focuses on transgender, won the Best Adapted Screenplay Award and Best Foreign Film respectively.

In 2017, a growing number of excellent LGBTQ films were produced, including “Call Me by Your Name”, “120 Beats Per Minute”, “Thelma”……We even witnessed the film, Moonlight, which won the Best Picture of Academy Awards. This explains why film lovers have called 2017 the year of LGBTQ films.

There are also many outstanding Chinese films being produced recently. For example, “Thanatos, Drunk” which tells a tragic story, and “Alifu, the Prince/ss” that shows the real life of being a transgender. These films tell us that filmmakers are continuously focusing on LGBTQ stories from China as well.

In the last 10 years,ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival (ShPFF) has aimed to support emerging Chinese filmmakers while also bringing cutting-edge international queer cinema to Shanghai.

We are very excited to bring the community together once again this June. The countdown has begun for the film competition submissions.
