On June 22, the third day of ShPFF Special Screening was held at Un Caffe Bar. The films screened include Norwegian film Gender Me, directed by Nefise Özkal Lorentzen; ShPFF 2018 Chinese Short Film Awards winners, Pink Pills (Best Film and Best Cinematography), Becoming A Queen (Best Editing and Best Sound & Music), Sunken Plum (Best Screenplay) and Tidal (Nominee).

This is the first time that Gender Me came to Shanghai. It is a documentary about Mansour’s voyage into the world of Islam. He searches the questions and answers of faith and gender in Islam.

Nefise Özkal Lorentzen, the director of Gender Me was present and shared more about filmmaking, Turkey’s acceptance of diversity and personal opinions about religion. Although it was 10 years after the premiere of Gender Me, it is rarely known in China. Its creation lasted for 5 years. Nefise tried to show the real Islam through films after September 11 attacks.

Nefise Özkal Lorentzen is a Turkish-Norwegian writer, filmmaker and producer living in Oslo. In the past 20 years, she has directed several controversial documentaries about Islam and gender. For her contributions to LGBTQ community and human rights, she was awarded as one of top 10 ten immigrant models in Norway.
