Recap | LGBTQ Groups Gathered in ShanghaiPRIDE

On June 16, the ShanghaiPRIDE LGBTQ Groups Open Day invited organizations from various regions across China for a diverse and vibrant dialogue.

The LGBTQ Groups Open Day aims to unite the LGBTQ community organizations in various fields and regions to provide a platform for knowledge and experience exchange. Together, we hope to promote social visibility and acceptance for the LGBTQ communities in the country.

The organizations invited this year come from nearly 20 different locations, including Shanghai, Beijing, Guangdong, Shenzhen, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hubei, Sichuan, Fujian, and Shaanxi.

Vikki Darrough, the Senior Political Officer from British Embassy Beijing, expressed her support for ShanghaiPRIDE and the LGBTQ community.

In the following introduction sessions, the organizations prepared many promotional materials and gifts, showing their works and events. Shanghai CSW & MSM Center shared their data on HIV tests and associated efforts, raising awareness for health and well-being. The live performance from Shanghai Hyperbolic Singers received a big round of applause from the audience. The founder of Intersex Asia Network, Hiker Chiu, and the author of the first lesbian poem collection, “The Love Poems of Girls”, Shen Biao-Mei, also attended the event to support ShanghaiPRIDE.

Throughout the LGBTQ Groups Open Day, the organizations made in-depth dialogues and were able to connect, creating a stronger and more diverse voice for the community.

Special thanks to all LGBTQ groups who participated! Thank you British Consulate-General in Shanghai, Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai, Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai, Bayer China, and Xuhui CDC for event support.
