This forum is focused on Inclusive Academia and will feature teachers and counsellors specifically trained to support LGBTQ students. We will be discussing how enhancing school curriculum and providing social-emotional support can drastically reduce the staggering bullying rate amongst queer youth.

Speakers

Ming Chen

Ming Chen is a high school Chinese teacher and head teacher from Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. Chen, the core lecturer in Gender Friendly Campus Fund, has 5-year experience in gender education. He skills at integrating LGBT-related topics into his day-to-day teaching — particularly in the class meeting and his Chinese language course — through various methods like in-class reading comprehension from the gender perspective, extra-curriculum reading, further writing practice and daily class atmosphere construction.

Yuxin Miao

Yuxin Miao is a high school psychology teacher from Shanghai. Miao, the core lecturer in Gender Friendly Campus Fund, has set up a series of theme class related to gender diversity and sex education in her psychology curriculum. Miao, also the advisor of high school clubs, encourages students to critically discuss the topics like gender diversity, possibilities on marriage equality and gender violence on campus through arranging activities, such as psycho-scene-drama, interactive board game and so forth. In addition to that, Miao devotes herself to cultivating the awareness of gender diversity outside the classroom.

Lee Ji-Young

Lee Ji-Young is a high school history teacher and an advocate for the transgender community. Lee facilitates workshops and publicly speaks on issues such as transgender visibility, inclusive workplace practices, and queer media representation for foreign consulates, universities, and companies. Lee’s long-term/ongoing project is to complete an LGBTQ+ historical encyclopaedia which will validate queer people as an integral part of their national histories and pave the way towards greater cultural acceptance.

Event Participation and Health Check Entry Notice

All participants must register prior to attending an event. Upon entry, participants are required to measure their body temperature. If the participant’s temperature exceeds 37.3℃, or if the participant has a cough, shortness of breath or other flu-like symptoms, they shall not be allowed entry.

Please wear masks when entering and leaving the venue.

Please show your GREEN Shanghai QR Code when entering the venue. Participants with Shanghai QR Codes in other colors are not allowed to enter.

There is a limitation on the number of participants for all events. There will be no further admission once we reach maximum capacity for an event.
