Beneficiary – LesTalk

Introduction

LesTalk,is a non-profit organization run by a group of Chinese LGBT volunteers all across China. It operates the first nationwide Internet Community Radio that focuses mainly on lesbian community in China. Since its establishment in March, 2008, LesTalk has been not only a network of support but also new media for the community, enriching the lives of lesbian, bisexual, transgender and gay people, promoting the awareness of human rights of LGBT people in and out of the community and advocating for the rights in China. This is done through:

• Working as a community media to provide information about LGBT issues through broadcasting podcasts and releasing news articles, by living our values, sharing our expertise, and celebrating the full diversity of our lives, families, and communities.
• Offering advice to the mass media on LGBT issues
• Organizing advocacy activities
• Working with Partner LGBT organizations domestically to providing community support for them
• Fostering research focusing on LGBT issues
• Building the connection between LGBT community and LGBT-friendly small businesses

Our Team

We have 7 board members who manage the organization on a daily base. In addition, another 60 volunteers coming from different backgrounds all across china contribute to the diversity and productivity of the team.

Funding

SOGI Diversity Construction in LGBT Community

Objectives/Short Term Outcomes:

1. Increase the self-identity of SOGI among the lesbian, bisexual and masculine transgender people
2. Promote the awareness of LGBT rights among the lesbian, bisexual and masculine transgender people
3. Encourage LGBT people to participate in the LGBT activities to advocate for their own rights
4. Increase the visibility of people of diverse SOGI in the public

Activities:

1. LGBT Community Radio Project: producing and broadcasting Internet radio programs related to LGBT issues
2. Provide the most cutting-edge LGBT-related information and service
3. Establish a new media and social media platform to promote the publicity of other LGBT organizations’ service and projects in the LGBT community all across China
4. Provide psychological consulting service
5. Organize diverse activities in local communities, such as lectures, movie screening etc.
6. Develop lesbian smartphone applications
