Beneficiary – SLLA

Summary:

Founded in 2014, Snow Lotus Lesbian Association (SLLA) is the only non-profit organization in western China that endeavors to promote equality and dignity for lesbian women. Within a year, SLLA has recruited a group of volunteers and successfully organized several activities such as movie night, self-identity workshops, lesbian speed dating, and community service activities. In the future, SLLA aims to organize more activities in regards to skill training, cultural exchange, networking, community service, etc.

The goals of SLLA are:

§ To improve the health and wellbeing of lesbians, bisexual and transgender women in western China

§ To enhance public awareness of gender equality and reduce discrimination against sex or sex orientation

Since its foundation, SLLA plays an important role in supporting the growth of LBT women community and addressing the challenges they face. By far, we have already recruited a group of volunteers and successfully organized several internal activities such as movie night, self-identity workshops, lesbian speed dating, and other team building activities. Apart from these, we have also launched a weekly “nursery visiting” activity to brighten the day for older adults and promote mutual understanding through interaction.

In the future, we will continue to organize internal and external activities in following aspects:

§ Training activities: self-identity training, skill trainings and workshops.

§ Cultural activities: movie night, reading night, language learning activities, and etc.

§ Networking activities: speed dating, team building adventure trip, sports days, and etc.

§ Voluntary activities: nursery visiting, orphanage caring, and etc.

§ Cooperative activities with other LGBT associations.
