Pride5 Panel Discussion I – Workplace Diversity & Acceptance
This event is supported by The Consulate General of the Kingdom of Netherlands.
In 2012, ShanghaiPRIDE discussed about “coming out” and family issues. This year, we will host a panel discussion to talk about diversity and acceptance in the workplace.
On 17-May, International Day Against Homophobia, Aibai and other organizations published a report on “Chinese LGBT at the Workplace”. The survey from the report shows that only 6.29% of the participants are completely “out” at their workplaces, 47.62% would never come out and the rest, 45.63%, only revealed the truth to their friends and a few colleagues. Of all the participants, 53.63% have been humiliated and offended by jokes from their superiors or colleagues. The survey also showed that nearly one-third, 32.63%, of the respondents have been assaulted by their colleagues because of their sexual orientation and gender identity. Bullying, sexual harassment, and physical violence are also mentioned in the investigation.
In the United States and Europe, an increasing number of enterprises are promoting and advocating equal rights for LGBT communities. During the Pride5 first Panel Discussion, ShanghaiPRIDE, together with Aibai and Community Business, Goldman Sachs, IBM, Bayer, Career Building and other companies, would like to share experiences and ideas on the topic to create a better workplace for LGBT employees, also to discover potential development and innovation for their companies.
