01 ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival

June 10,ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival has its grand opening in Department for Culture and Education of German Consulate General in Shanghai. A festival of 8 days, over 33 hours of films runs offically.

In the past 10 years, ShPFF has always dedicated itself to bring more LGBTQ films to the local audience. This year, we have selected “Alifu, The Prince/ss” from Taiwan as the opening film. To the audience’s surprise, leading actor Utjung Tjakivalid showed up, and shared more about the film, behind the scenes and discussed identity as a native ethnic.

This year, the Chinese Short Film Awards attracted LGBTQ films from Mainland China, Taiwan, USA, UK, Singapore and etc. Festival Director, Raymond also announced winners of the 5 awards:

A total of 14 Chinese short films will be screened during the festival.

Founder of Asia Pacific Rainbow Family Forum, Bess Hepworth joined the audicence after the screening of “Paths”, for an in-depth discussion about her relationship with her wife, their children, APRFF and the fundamentals of love and family.

We’d like to thank the Department for Culture and Education of German Consulate General in Shanghai for providing the venue and presenting Paths. Thanks to Gravity and QAFONE for supporting the subtitles. 02 Queer Talks – Queer & Disabilities

In this year’s Queer Talks, we discussed the LGBTQ community with diasbilities for the first time.

Han Zhen, born in 1981, lost his eyesight to a disease. He shared with the audience his understanding about disabilities, sexuality, and gender identity.

Yang Xizhen, an advocate for equality for disabled women, had a failed marriage in the past. This has inspired her to reflect on marriage issues and difficulties disabled women are facing in the society.

Xiao Long, a volunteer, shared his experience in the workplace and his reasons for participating in LGBTQ charity work.

Qin Zhiyan, who lost her hearing due to fever medication she took as a child, shared her view on the influence of media on sexual minorities with disabilities.

The audience engaged in lively discussions with the speakers. Through this year’s Queer Talks, many felt they better understood the experiences and thoughts of LGBTQ community members with disabilities, and became more willing to support all members of the  community regardless of their other identities and conditions.

We’d like to express our appreciation to our long-term partner Happiness42 for sponsoring the venue, and Spread the Bagel for sponsoring delicious snacks.
