01 Out & Equal China Roundtable

For the first time on June 14, Out & Equal held a roundtable here in China to gain perspective on the workplace environment for LGBTQ. Partnering with ShanghaiPRIDE, this one-day gathering of LGBTQ and Ally leaders from various Chinese and multinational corporations came together to discuss the work environment and workplace inclusion.

Attendees heard from top executives on how to be more inclusive of LGBTQ individuals in the workplace, from employee benefits to employee resource groups and more. Speakers from Dell, IBM, Bayer, Accenture, Shanghai Qingai Health Center and GE shared their motivations for having a more inclusive workplace for LGBTQ coworkers.

The benefits of making LGBTQ employees feel included in the workplace include more creativity within the job, higher job satisfaction, stronger wellbeing and a greater feeling of overall wellbeing.

The topics of the day continued with discussions about the law in China, specifically LGBTQ issues in the workplace.

This event was a first for Out & Equal and ShanghaiPRIDE. It was a huge success with support of sponsors including GE, DELL, Visa, Community Business (HK) and H-Shield.

With the help of more multinational corporations and local business leaders taking a stand and making change for diversity and inclusion, our workforce is changing. You can learn more about Out & Equal here: www.outandequal.org

03 Ladies Party

Shanghai’s hottest Ladies Party was hosted at Celia on 9-June.

In the pulsing music, all types of lovely ladies came together to celebrate ShanghaiPRIDE’s annual Ladies Party.

Guest performer hiphop’s beautiful and alluring performance was infectious. Ladies at the party couldn’t stop themselves from getting pumped up and dancing to the beat.

Shanghai Drag King Dorian T. Fisk and his band took the stage inciting rounds of screams, and his wild performance brought the crowd’s ecstatic vibe to another level.

The dance floor was packed throughout the night. Many guests also visited the ShanghaiPRIDE raffles booth to buy raffle tickets (all proceeds go to trans organizations in China) in hopes of winning prizes. The nearby souvenir table, offering limited edition Pride10 collectibles, was also a big hit. Pride pins, multi-color wrist bands and rainbow bandanas were the most popular items.

As the last round of raffle prizes and performances finished, ShanghaiPRIDE 2018 Ladies Party started to wrap up, but no one wanted the evening to end.

Special thanks to OneWorld Healthcare, Rela, and TOIS for their support, along with Celia by Pulse for sponsoring the venue for this event.
