ShPFF | It’s A Wrap for ShPFF 2018!
On the evening of June 26, the last day of ShPFF 2018 Special Screenings, we went back to the closing venue, The British Centre. ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival 2018 which lasted for 12 days and more than 45 hours, covered LGBTQ film screenings, community dialogues and filmmaker talks has finally come to an end!
The international short films screened during the evening include Dusk, Elena, For the Time Being, Headspace, Lions in Waiting and Positive.
Daniela Lucato, the director of For the time being; Jason Karman, the director of Lions in Waiting and Roberto Nascimento, the director of Positive shared their flimmaking stories and sent their best wishes to ShanghaiPRIDE via video messages.
We also invited Philippe Mangeot, the co-screenwriter of 120 BPM, the nominee of Palme D’or Award 2017 and Best Film of Caesar Award 2017, for a discussion with the audience. Before that, Marianne Ziss, Head of Press Section at the Consulate General of France in Shanghai, congratulated Pride10 on the success and was happy to support.
Philippe Mangeot was the 11th member and former President of Act Up-Paris (from 1997 to 1999). Based on his experiences, Philippe vividly reproduced the story of Act Up-Paris 25 years ago.
In 2017, 120 BPM premiered at Cannes Film Festival and received great reviews which was beyond Philippe’s expectations. Philippe shared the collaboration with Robin Campillo, the director of 120 BPM, and the stories about the film’s castings. He also talked about his idea of filmmaking, in which filmmaking should not only convey ideas to the audience, but also serves as the presentation of the filmmaker’s experience and emotions.
When answering questions about the controversial ending of 120 BPM, Philippe said frankly that this ending is a very personal story and closely related to his own experience. He wanted to tell the audience that the feeling of being alive is the most beautiful thing and love really has no boundaries.
We would like to thank the British Consulate General Shanghai for venue support, Consulate General of France in Shanghai for supporting the event, Gravity Subtitles and QAFONE for subtitles, Auderghem, Beer Belgium, H-Shield, HowFun, Hunter Gatherer, Il Vino, Sweet Teeth, Tenga, WeMan, and White Castle for their generous support and gifts.
