Recap | The Importance of Mental Health Care

The Mental Health Forum, ShanghaiPRIDE’s first forum of the year, was successfully held at Bridge+ on June 13. The forum focused on coming to terms with self-identity and achieving internal and external acceptance.

Three mental health workers were invited to speak at the forum. Dr. Felice Soo from Jiahui Health shared her insights on LGBTQ self-acceptance. Xin Ying, from Beijing LGBT Center, spoke about queer life in contemporary China. Tin Tin, from Shanghai QingAi Health Center spoke on the theme of “taking pride in oneself as a person”.

One highlight of the forum was Tin Tin’s discussion around the topic of “I’m not a gay person, but a person who happens to be gay”. He expressed that he is still exploring his self-identity through observing his life and playing the role of director and screenwriter in his life, rather than merely participating as an actor.

ShanghaiPRIDE would like to thank our partners, sponsors, the LGBTQ community, and everyone who participated in the Mental Health Forum this year, including the Australian Consulate General in Shanghai and Microsoft!
