On the night of May 12th, the highly-anticipated first work of the ShanghaiPRIDE Theatre Festival:“PRIDE” successfully premiered.
Starting from when tickets first became available, this play has already attracted the attention of many. The view count on Huodongxing had already approached 20,000 while the view count on WeChat had exceeded 610,000! Unsurprisingly, the audience seats were completely packed on the evening of the premiere.
The performance itself did not let the audience down either. With its superb and sincere acting, realistic and vivid story, many audience members were not just made to laugh, but moved to tears as well.
After the thunderous applause and cheers rested a bit, the creators of the play took the stage too and talked enthusiastically with the audience. From the original intention to behind the scene stories, from the plot itself to the thoughts arising from it, the creators and the audience started in-depth discussions, and gave the crew a lot of pertinent suggestions.
Many audience members reflected that this is a unique, thought-provoking, and sincere LGBTQ-related work. The producer and director Lu Chongtian further revealed that the Qingyuan drama company is continuing to refine its works and is planning to bring “PRIDE” to other cities as well, so that more people will have the opportunities to watch the play first-hand.
After the performance, the crew arranged a small party, and the audience continued to cheer. While outside the window, the rainbow flag continues to fly in the wind.
Synopsis
This is a story about four young people in a fairly conservative small city. Their pride gathered them together for a festival of their own. As the day approaches, they start to find that the difficulties are everywhere. Although everyone is eager for equality and liberty they also suffer from many varieties of inequality. There’s still a long way to The Rainbow. Will they keep going?
Qinyuan Theatre Group
Qintuan Theatre Group was established in 2016. Its current members are all working in the pharmaceutical or health industry. They all have various theatre performance experiences from both school and post graduation. Publicly performed original plays include “The Silence of Argus” and “Thank You For Your Hard Work, Hanqin” that were widely applauded by many audiences.
