Recap | 2019 Pride Art Officially Opens
On June 8, Pride Art opened at the Polar Bear Gallery that showed public submissions from artists of different occupations, lifestyles, and backgrounds. Through paintbrushes and camera lenses, the artists gave us their unique takes on self-identity, diversity, and Pride.
The opening ceremony brought participants from all over the world, some as far as New Zealand. Displayed artworks inspired all attendees who contemplated the meaning of the artworks. Meanwhile, everyone also enjoyed fine food and beverages provided by Great Leap Brewing, Il Vino, and Spread the Bagel.
Some of the artists came to the opening ceremony to share their passions, inspirations, and the creation process with the audience.
We also invited Mr. Remco van Wijngaarden, the Consul General of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Shanghai, to share a few words. His opening remarks not only encouraged the LGBTQ community, but also expressed support and recognition towards the decade-long partnership with ShanghaiPRIDE.
Pride Art received numerous works from over 50 artists. These works define the themes of “Self-Awareness”, “Relationships”, and “Community” from various perspectives. Our sincere gratitude goes to all artists for supporting Pride Art.
Rounds of raffles also took place during the opening ceremony. Many thanks to sponsors and partners for providing such exquisite gifts.
Special thanks to the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Shanghai, Polar Bear Gallery, COACH, Great Leap Brewing, Goodrug, Il Vino, Spread the Bagel (STB), Xuhui CDC, and Yunni for supporting this year’s Pride Art. Finally, we would like to thank all the volunteers for their hard work and commitment!
