The 2nd Annual Pride’s Got Talent will be holding auditions on February 28th from 2:00pm – 6:00pm at the Pearl (471 Zhapu Lu).

Pride’s Got Talent is an annual amateur talent show to support the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) community in Shanghai. Participants compete for 3000rmb in total cash prizes in front of a live audience. Featuring exciting guest professional performers and local celebrity judges! LGBTQ and Straight Allies are welcome!

All talents are encouraged to audition: music, spoken word, dance, drag, burlesque, circus, and comedy!

ShanghaiPRIDE Volunteer Team Introduction
ShanghaiPRIDE is an annual week-long festival that has been celebrating diversity since 2009. It is the first LGBTQ festival in Mainland China. It is organized entirely by volunteers with the support of businesses, individuals, and foreign consulates. Our aim is to create awareness, promote visibility and tolerance for the LGBTQ community through various sports, cultural, and social activities. As a non-profit festival, ShanghaiPRIDE supports local grassroots development and fundraises for projects related to diversity issues. ShanghaiPRIDE promotes cross-cultural exchange locally as well as with LGBTQ festivals across Asia.

Over the past seven years, ShanghaiPRIDE has trained outstanding volunteers who come from all over the world to help and participate in this festival. All of the core organizing members of the festival are from the volunteer team.MORE…

Jan 21^st, 2016 – CINEMQ is back! The monthly queer cinema party, organized by ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival, returned after a six-month break. Fifty people joined us to watch a selection of international short films. The theme was FACES, looking at masculinity, queer identity and the masks LGBT people are asked to wear to fit into society.

The event was hosted at Logo Club, with an after party by DJ Michael Cignarale and MIIIA.

Polyamory:  Polyamorous people are those who include/are open to including multiple partners in a romantic relationship.Through media, culture and institutionalized value systems, we are conditioned to believe the only way to experience true love is through wanting one person and only them.  Polyamory is therefore often seen as abnormal, deviant or completely impossible. For this reason, for individuals who identity as polyamorous, it can be a challenging, emotional and self-doubting journey.

What defines a romantic relationships for you? Does talking about non-monogamous relationships feel uncomfortable or challenging for you? What are your thoughts or experiences on polyamorous relationships?

Dec 17 – Where are all the Chinese queers? Love Queer Cinema Week Tour arrived in Shanghai on Thursday this week with six short Chinese films from around the world. The screening is part of a series around China curated by Fan Popo and others from Beijing’s annual queer film festival. Their aim is to improve visibility of Chinese LGBTQ people, who are often absent in mainstream culture, and to engage people from all backgrounds in discussion about queer issues. Transgender/Trans: An umbrella term for people whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. The term transgender is not indicative of gender expression, sexual orientation, hormonal makeup, physical anatomy, or how one is perceived in daily life. December 1st this year marked the 28th World AIDS Day, it also marked the first Red Ribbon Gala organized by ShanghaiPRIDE, Q-Events, and the Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai.

“We are proud to be associated with the LGBT community and we trust that the Red Ribbon Gala will be a small contribution to the growing awareness of the need of further HIV research and support in China”, said Henk Meyknecht, General Manager of the Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai.

HIV-related stigma and discrimination refers to prejudice, negative attitudes and abuse directed at people living with HIV and AIDS. The fear surrounding the emerging HIV epidemic in the 1980s persists today. At that time, very little was known about how HIV is transmitted, which made people scared of those infected due to fear of contagion. The consequences of stigma and discrimination are wide-ranging. Some people are shunned by family, peers and the wider community, while others face poor treatment in healthcare and education settings, erosion of their human rights, and psychological damage. These all limit access to HIV testing, treatment and other HIV services. We can put an end to this stigma, let’s talk about it!MORE…
