In conjunction with International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia, this year’s Rainbow Bike Ride will be held on Saturday evening, May 21st, and will also serve to hype the coming ShanghaiPRIDE in June. Six teams of cyclists will represent the six colours of the Rainbow Flag, starting out from every corner of Shanghai to meet at Brownstone, Yongjia Court for an after party. Riding time varies from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the route. We will equip each team of cyclists with lights of their representative colour and be there to record the moment all six teams flow together to form the Six-Coloured Rainbow.MORE…

Spring is here and there’s something sweet on the warm breeze which awakens us to thoughts of transformation and lust. CINEMQ blew through last night with their 9th edition. FLORA was a celebration of discovery and becoming, of wandering down to the bottom of the garden, of tasting the strange spring flowers which bloom there. This months short films were programmed by Tingting Shi, a crop of lady fruits and luscious creatures which crossed boundaries of gender, age and self. Juiced-up afterparty tunes were provided by CINEMQ favourite Michael Cignarale (Co:Motion)

ABOUT ALMA

Asia LGBT Milestone Awards & Forum (“ALMA Awards & Forum” in short) is the region’s premier LGBT event aimed at celebrating key occasions, programs, activities, and initiatives deemed to be a key milestone moment. And by which we showed our great efforts in drawing greater social awareness, debate and progress. It’s the region’s only cross-border event platform that draws a significant number of key interest stakeholders from the community NGOs, public figures, journalists, entrepreneurs and business leaders in advocating social diversity.

ALMA Awards & Forum is the birth-child of well-known Singapore’s gay magazine ELEMENT. Born in the beginning of 2014, ALMA Awards has quickly gained its strong influence over the region by being the one and only LGBT Awards that comes with both an awards ceremony and as well as a business diversity leadership forum, sponsored by IBM, BP and other large corporations.

ALMA Awards & Forum is usually held in March or April, touring around Asia in different cities. This year, ELEMENT Magazine announced that it will collaborate with ShanghaiPRIDE to bring the event to Shanghai, China for the first time in its history, and to be held on the very last day of ShanghaiPRIDE as a part of the Festival. Hiro Mizuhara, founder of ALMA Awards & Forum and Vice President of Singapore’s EPIC Media (ELEMENT Magazine’s holding company), made a recent announcement that an organizing committees board is to be established to put together the 3rd ALMA Awards & Forum, it is a symbol too, that the initiative has become a “milestone” moment itself.MORE…

In the scope of popular culture, LGBTQIA+ individuals are becoming more visible and more accepted by the mainstream. However, within this larger acceptance comes ‘pinkwashing,’ or an appeal to queer-friendliness as a means of pushing commercial or political agendas.

This week, Queer Talks dissects its many implications for queer individuals the world over. How does the exploitation of queer culture by capitalist organizations, politicians, and media harm our community? Are there international consequences of pinkwashing that affect LGBTQIA+ individuals in our increasingly global society? Please feel free to come and take part of our discussion.MORE…

ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival returns for its second year, 17-26^th June 2016. The 10 day festival is a unique platform in Shanghai, showcasing new and emerging Chinese filmmaking talent, alongside some of the most talked about and compelling movies from around the world.

In 2016, ShPFF is celebrating GENDER in all its forms, with films on transgender, non-binary and agender people. The festival teaser trailer, released today, features different gender presentations by members of the Shanghai community.MORE…    

Pride’s Got Talent, one of the most gorgeous events in the ShanghaiPRIDE calendar, returned last weekend for its second year. The show brought together 18 queer performance acts from around the city for one night of music, dance, glitter and glamour. It was a full house, with lesbians, gays, boys, girls and all in between packing the rafters of the infamous host venue, The Pearl.

The festivities were kicked off by drag circuit legend Miss Jade, our hostess for the night with a tongue so sharp she could cause permanent damage. Guest performers, including PGT organizer Ennis FW, tore up the night with drag and comedy performances, but the real stars were the 18 competition acts. From original songs to screaming tributes, fire dancers to pole dancers, the audience went crazy for it. Some performers brought their mums, others brought a bus load of fans, and the love ran high all night. Hailing from China and across the world, they represented the cultural diversity of Shanghai’s queer community.MORE…

Mar 3nd, 2016 – CINEMQ was huge! The monthly queer cinema party, organized by ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival, returned for its 8th edition. 80 people joined for a free screening of short films from around the world.

This month’s theme was RABBIT, a dreamy tumble down into wonderland and a world of queer possibilities. And what better venue than labyrinthine Shelter? It was the series’ debut at Shanghai’s infamous underground club, with an afterparty dj set by Mau Mau (Co:Motion)

CINEMQ has become a cult favorite since its inception last year. TimeOut Shanghai recently picked it as one of the best queer parties in the city.

Ever dreamed of being a movie star?

Lights, camera, glamour! We’re getting excited for the 2nd ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival, which is only 4 months away during PRIDE week. This year, our theme is GENDER, an important but sometimes underrepresented part of LGBTQ culture. To help celebrate this, the team shot a special trailer this weekend with members of the Shanghai community showing us what’s special about how they express their gender identity.

The trailer was directed by Sui Yao, a local creative known for her commercial installation work in some of Shanghai’s busiest shopping districts and coolest bars. The full cut will be out in May, but we’re releasing a teaser on March 15th, along with some special announcements about the short film competition, including our industry judges…stay tuned for more.MORE…
