Over these past two months, we’ve been excited to receive so many applications to be speakers for Pride Talk 2018. This year, we are trying something new: you get to decide who speaks!MORE…    

Every June is LGBTQ Pride month. All around the world, rainbow flags can be seen alongside the parades, parties, and celebrations that are held in support of the LGBTQ community. Instead of being envious of these sights from the “outside world”, China also has its own volunteer-run Pride festival celebrating its 10-year anniversary – ShanghaiPRIDE.MORE…

In recent years, films reflecting the LGBTQ community have caught the attention of the public. At the 80th Oscar’s Academy Awards, “Call Me by Your Name” which narrates gay love and “A Fantastic Woman” that focuses on transgender, won the Best Adapted Screenplay Award and Best Foreign Film respectively.

In 2017, a growing number of excellent LGBTQ films were produced, including “Call Me by Your Name”, “120 Beats Per Minute”, “Thelma”……We even witnessed the film, Moonlight, which won the Best Picture of Academy Awards. After the last panel discussion to raise awareness against gender-based violence, Women Up! X CADVN collaborated with Beijing Common Language to host “Women Up! X China Anti-Domestic Violence Network Series II: Grassroots Organizing Workshop”. We aimed to deepen the participants’ understanding of the development of grassroots organizations in China, provide tools for event planning and execution, and encourage participants to establish or incubate their own projects.

As the first speaker of Pride Talk in June 2017, I felt both anxious and determined. I was anxious because I wondered how much of my story would resonate with the audience; I was determined because I was talking about my true self onstage.MORE…    

To advocate a healthy and active lifestyle in the female community,HELSC organized its first badminton championship last Sunday with ShanghaiPRIDE as the co-organizer.

The doubles tournament featured 12 women’s teams divided into four groups. After the group competition round and elimination round, the teams of CC & Kong and You You & Jing Jing qualified for the final, with CC & Kong winning 2-1. All teams had a great time in their matches. After the event, many participants expressed hopes for similar events in the future.MORE…    

Finally, 2018 has arrived! ShanghaiPRIDE and HELSC will co-host the first Badminton Women’s Doubles Championship with the theme “Health and Vitality”. We aim at promoting a healthy interaction among our lesbian members of the community through sports in order to nurture a positive outlook of the community.

Registered players will receive a mini bottle of honey imported from Belgium valued at RMB38 and a bracelet from ShanghaiPRIDE on the day of the event. They will also be given priority of registration in the next game.
