As the LGBTQ community gains strides throughout the world, it’s more important than ever to share a message of love, acceptance and diversity far and wide. That’s the aim of ShanghaiPRIDE as the festival returns for its 11th year with a new theme: 同享彩虹 Share the Pride. As mainland China’s largest and longest-running Pride festival, the volunteer-run organization will Share the Pride on June 8-16, 2019 with a week of art, film, discussions, parties and community-building, all aimed at celebrating the diversity and strength of the LGBTQ community.MORE…    

On March 30, the 2019 GULU Badminton Championship, co-hosted by the GULU Badminton Club and ShanghaiPRIDE, had a successful run in Qingliu Middle School Badminton Gym in Pudong. The event is dedicated to the LGBTQ community and our allies!MORE…

About this event

East and Southeast Asia have experienced recent advancements and setbacks in terms of LGBTQ rights. While many companies in the region are supportive and a great number have made innovative advancements, they face unique social and legal obstacles in advancing LGBTQ workplace inclusion. Since its founding in 2009, ShanghaiPRIDE has been an annual celebration of diversity, aimed to increase societal awareness of the LGBTQ community. The eleventh ShanghaiPRIDE, with the theme “同享彩虹 Share the Pride,” will take place from 08-Jun to 16-Jun. Through harnessing the power of our collective communities, we hope to spread the word further and make our voices heard.

Looking back at the 2018 LGBTQ films, many stood out and caught our hearts. We remember “Love, Simon”, one of the most popular films during the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF). “Sorry Angel” and “Girl” impressed the audience deeply during the Cannes Film Festival. We also saw some great Chinese films, such as “Dear Ex” which started a heated discussion online. We cannot stop talking about the Oscar Winners, including “Green Book”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and “The Favorite”. Let us not forget about the Teddy Jury Award Winner, “A Dog Barking at the Moon”.MORE…    

ShanghaiPRIDE is welcoming 2019 by once again joining forces with the GULU Badminton Club! The badminton match is themed “Vitality with Pride.” This theme highlights an inclusive community by inviting our LGBTQ+ neighbors to adopt a healthy lifestyle.MORE…

We’re now accepting T-shirt design submissions for ShanghaiPRIDE 2019. The winner’s design will be printed on the Pride11 theme T-shirts; the winner will receive two tickets for free access to the ShanghaiPRIDE Official Party and two T-shirts designed by yourself!MORE…

ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival (ShPFF) will return on June 8-16, 2019. In June of 2018, we celebrated 10 years of ShanghaiPRIDE — and 10 years of sharing our stories. We are very excited to bring the community together once again around LGBTQ films!MORE…    

The 11th anniversary of ShanghaiPRIDE is coming up in 2019! Over the years, volunteers from all over the world have contributed to and grown alongside ShanghaiPRIDE. Many later became pivotal figures in LGBTQ-related organizations in other parts of the world! As a tradition, ShanghaiPRIDE has been entirely run by volunteers. We are working partners as well as a big family. Volunteering spirit is what keeps the festival going.

On June 22, the third day of ShPFF Special Screening was held at Un Caffe Bar. The films screened include Norwegian film Gender Me, directed by Nefise Özkal Lorentzen; ShPFF 2018 Chinese Short Film Awards winners, Pink Pills (Best Film and Best Cinematography), Becoming A Queen (Best Editing and Best Sound & Music), Sunken Plum (Best Screenplay) and Tidal (Nominee).MORE…    

On the evening of June 20, the second day of ShPFF 2018 Special Screening, we went back to the opening venue, the Department for Culture and Education of German Consulate General in Shanghai. The audience enjoyed another delightful feast of LGBTQ films.MORE…
