Pride7 Hits Shanghai June 12th-21st

Shanghai, March 30, 2015 – The ShanghaiPRIDE festival is back for its seventh year with a week’s worth of cultural, social and educational events aimed at creating awareness and promoting tolerance and acceptance. This year’s festival will run under the theme “Love Is Our Future” (爱予未来 ai yu weilai), referring to love in the form of connections among LGBTQ individuals; same-sex marriage; and support and tolerance from family, friends, colleagues and allies regardless of lifestyle, gender or sexual orientation.

Clay OK Review！

On Saturday 28March, ShanghaiPRIDE hosted an arts-and-crafts event ‘Clay OK!’. Participants came to a cozy little studio to create adorable clay figures and make new friends. We offered free mimosas to help the creative juices flow and we were impressed with the results, so were the participants. ShanghaiPRIDE is creating an “ARTernative” to the bar scene with a fun, relaxing and safe-zone environment where participants could mingle with no pressure. Our instructors helped us pick the most creative winners who received special mugs and calendars.

Homonormativity 101: What It Is and How It’s Hurting Our Movement

Used to describe something that’s been around much longer than the word itself, the phenomenon of homonormativity is considered by many to be destructive to the queer rights movement and to the larger queer community.
Homonormativity is a word that addresses the problems of privilege we see in the queer community today as they intersect with White privilege, capitalism, sexism, transmisogyny, and cissexism, all of which end up leaving many people out of the movement toward greater sexual freedom and equality.
